Side Projects

There are projects that pay the bills and there are projects that feed the soul. I am a firm believer that in order to stay creative and inspired, that you create projects out of the norm. Stepping out of the office and taking a break from staring at the computer screen and going out and making something out of nothing is food for the creative soul.
WEDDING COLLATERAL I had the pleasure of working on my own wedding collateral and also for one of the most challenging clients ever...my wife. In an effort to save money I decided to keep things DIY by printing out everything, cutting, and hand foil some of the details in the collateral. The concept for the collateral was flight, since the majority of our relationship together was spent long distance. We would fly out to each other often that it felt second nature to us.
BUSINESS CARDS Ever since I was in school, I was always fascinated with all things letterpressed. I loved how the design gets imprinted into the thick cotton paper, how it created depth, and how it created visual texture that it made you feel compelled to run your fingers across it. I set out to create my own business cards and bought and restored an old Craftsman tabletop letterpress. The greatest part of these business cards wasn't the end result, but the process. I learned a great deal from letterpressing my own business cards that I gained a new appreciation for the craft.
HANDCRAFTED COASTERS A set of handmade coasters that was created as a gift for Valentine's Day. Designing the packaging was one of the most enjoyable tasks in this project next to prepping, painting, and sanding the coasters themselves.
ELEPHANT PILLOW Created a pillow with a custom designed elephant pattern. The printed cloth was outsourced and then hand sewn by a friend.
CUSTOM MUNNY Custom painted Munny, which is a popular collectable DIY vinyl figure. The concept for the figure was determined by the type of accessories that it comes packaged with randomly. What was originally suppose to be a bunny hat turned into a pair of tighty-whities as a hat.
